Unanimity

How should decisions be made in the church? So asks G. H. Lang in this 24-page booklet. By vote of the majority? By decree of a strong leader?

No, by waiting for the unanimous feeling to be reached. Impossible (it is said)! Yet God’s word in fact does command believers to be one:

“Give diligence to keep the unity of the Spirit” (Eph. 4:3).

“That you all speak the same thing” (1 Cor. 1:10).

“Be of the same mind, with one accord, and one mouth” (Rom. 15:5-6).

Jesus prayed “That they all may be one, even as Thou Father, art in Me, and I in Thee, that they also may be one in us” (John 17:21).

If it is scriptural, then it is possible, especially since the power rests with Him who gave the command.

“A unanimity can be reached which will astonish us, just as time back we should have been astonished had we been told that love, joy and peace could be ours to the degree they now are through the Spirit’”.
