Robert Govett on Hebrews

$26.00

by Robert Govett; 509 pgs.

Mirroring the need of the persecuted and staggering Jewish believers to whom the epistle was written, Hebrews is at once a book of both sublime encouragement and fearful warning.

Encouragement:

-Our Christ is superior to the Angels, Moses and Aaron

-As our High Priest He sympathizes with us in our trials, strengthens us in our weakness, and upholds us before the throne of God against our accuser

-His New Covenant is based on Eternal Life rather than earthly commandments

-Thus we should consider Him, and look away unto Him at all times

The more we remember the perfect Priesthood of Christ in drawing near to God, and the less we think of our worthiness or unworthiness, the better.

Warning:

-As most of Israel failed to enter into the rest in the Good Land, we should fear the danger of not entering into the Millennial Kingdom

-While full grace reigns now for the believer, the day of recompense in righteousness according to works is at hand

-Without sanctification no man can see God

-Holiness is proportionate to obedience, and reward is proportionate to both

The key to this Epistle’s chief difficulties is knowing that Eternal Life is the gift of God at once to faith, and cannot be lost,

BUT

The millennial glory is a matter of reward, and may by misconduct after faith, be lost.
