Robert Govett on Romans
by Robert Govett; hard cover
Robert Govett brings much clarity through the familiar topics of righteousness, judgment, justification by faith, grace, peace and the Holy Spirit in Romans 1-5. His experiential insight shines in chapters 6 - 8 touching the parallels of Adam and Christ and the spirit and the flesh.
-Baptism by immersion being the entrance to applying death to the flesh and living in the spirit (6:3-5).
-God offers abundant grace and the gift of righteousness to those justified (6:17). Those believers of set purpose take of both.
-Others are content just to be saved; and sit still, instead of running in the race for the prize of their calling.
In summary, a justified believer is regenerated, but the flesh is still in him. He may live according to the flesh instead of the spirit, which results in death, lasting through the millennial kingdom. The saint, led by the Holy Spirit as a son of God, prays and praises God as his Father, in a spirit of freedom. The indwelling Holy Spirit assures him that he is a child of God and heir of God, inheriting both eternal life and the millennial kingdom. Such a one loves God and applies the law of love to his fellow believers.
